The VAC on Sunday 12th February held a training session on 'Welfare for birds at sales' given by Dr. Stacey Gelis. There were 34 people, mainly consisting of bird expo stewards in attendance who undertook the training. There were some great conversations around what is acceptable at our expo's and what a sick birds look like. The overall consensus was that 'only birds in good health, sound physical condition, fully feathered and self-sufficient' will be offered for sale at all Bird Expo's held throughout Victoria.
Following this, all affiliates had the privilege of listening to DEWLP representative Jennifer Cane, who explained the new online system OWLS (Online Wildlife Licensing System) they are hoping to release in the later months of 2017. This is a system that will make the licensing system much easier and faster for all parties involved. Jennifer was also very happy to answer the many questions our members had in regards to all aspects of wildlife licensing.
It was great to see so many of our members in attendance, taking advantage of some very knowledgeable guests. A HUGE Thank-you to Stacey & Jennifer for their contribution to Aviculture.
